Is Jesus God? There is lots of evidence in the Bible that witnesses to the fact. But I will only touch on one. First the Bible says that only God is to be worshipped. Mat 4:10; Deut 6:13; 10:20; 5:7-9; Ex 20:1-6. It is expressly forbidden to worship any angelic or lesser being. (Rev 22:8-9) But yet we se Jesus being worshipped by the angels. (Heb 1:6; Rev 22:8-9) If Jesus was not God then there are a lot of idol worshippers in Heaven. Also if He were not God then we have a lot more problems, namely in the area of our salvation, the trustworthiness of our Bible and other area. But that is a topic of discussion for a later time.

ReplyDeleteIs Jesus God?
The short answer is most definitely NO!
Rather, his Father is, who Jesus identified
as the only true GOD!
[John 17.3]
Concerning the worship of Jesus, please see:
The Worship of Christ
Defining the Term "Worship"
Jesus can indeed be worshiped scripturally, because he was/is worshiped as GOD's Messiah,
GOD's Appointed King.
He was and is never worshiped as Almighty GOD!
So, if we accept Jesus at his words,
that he is indeed the Messiah, the Son of GOD;
it actually eliminates any problems that mankind as created in reading the Bible.
Rather, Jesus is GOD's human Son,
which GOD has provided for our salvation.
[Rom 5.8-19; 1 Cor 15.21]

Adam, thanks for your comments. As you figure though, I will have to disagree with you. I plan to begin a series from my studies to put forth evidence that Jesus is God. But let me also say that I believe the Jesus when He came to earth was 100% God and 100% Man for the whole time He was here on earth. I also believe in the Trinity. But I would like to make a couple points here.
ReplyDelete1. If Jesus was only a man, that would mean he was a created being. These verses clearly show that Jesus was the creator/God.
Colossians 1:16-17 (KJV)
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
If "All" things were created by Him, then He had to be preexistant. He could not have been created after anything else.
2. If He were man only, then he could not offer the "infinite" sacrifice and pay the "infinite" cost. A man could only pay for his own sin if that were possible and not pay for everyone elses sins. Only an infinite being could pay the infinite cost for an infinite number of people.
3. John called Him the Almighty Lord in Revelations and the angels worshipped the Almighty.
Here are some verses from Revelation to illustrate this.
1:8) "I am Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and the Ending, saith th Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (Jesus speaking)
1:10) I [John]...heard...a great voice, as of a trumpet,
1:11) Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last...
1:12) And I turned to see the voice that spake with me...And...I saw...
1:13) One like unto the Son of man...(Jesus)
1:17) And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. and He laid Hisright hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the First and the Last;
1:18) I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen...
4:8) HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, WHICH WAS,AND IS, AND IS TO COME,
21:6) ...I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end...
21:7) ...I will be His God...
22:12) And, Behold, I come quickly...
22:13) I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.
22:16) I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the Bright and Morning Star."
"...I the LORD, the First, and with the Last; I am He." Isa 41:4 (Notice the same words used by God in Isa are the same words used by Jesus in Revelation.)
You may find that most religions that believe that Jesus was only man, also believe that there is some form of work they must do to either be saved or maintain their salvation. They also are never sure of their salvation.
As I said I will continue this as a series. Thanks and look forward to more conversations.
